Japanese kawaii brands that go past L: measured in cm (Bodyline, DearMyLove, JIRAPI, CIELOHUK)
Four brands on this site publish sizes beyond L: Bodyline (up to 4L on dresses), DearMyLove (up to 3L), JIRAPI (up to 5XL) and CIELOHUK (up to XXL). The labels mean different things at each brand — at each brand’s top size, bust runs from 90–104 cm at Bodyline’s 4L to 124–126 cm at JIRAPI’s 5XL — so compare centimetres, not labels.
These are jirai-kei and ryousangata brands (see what jirai-kei is if the terms are new). A size label such as “3L” or “XXL” is set by each brand, not by a shared standard. In Japan the usual ladder is L, LL (roughly XL), then 3L (roughly 2XL) and up; some brands write 2L for LL, and Bodyline skips 3L (it lists 2L, then 4L). Treat that mapping as approximate. This page puts the published measurements of the same kind of garment, a dress, side by side. Every number is copied from an official product page as of 10 October 2026. Prices and stock change; check the current page.
None of these pages says whether the bust figure is a flat width or a circumference. DearMyLove says it measures garments laid flat with a tape, but does not say whether the bust number is doubled. The figures are given here as published, so compare them with a garment from the same brand that you have measured the same way. All table figures are in centimetres. For how to measure, see the size guide.
The top size at each brand
Within one brand a larger label means a larger garment, but across brands the same label differs. The table shows bust and waist at each brand’s largest size across the four dresses measured per brand.
| Brand | Largest size on dresses | Bust at that size | Waist at that size | Listed prices of the items measured |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Bodyline | 4L | 90–104 cm | 76–94 cm | ¥8,280–9,280 |
| DearMyLove | 3L | 98–108 cm | 76–90 cm | ¥10,990–12,990 (tax included) |
| JIRAPI | 5XL (on two of four items) | 124–126 cm | 106–112 cm | ¥3,780–6,220 |
| CIELOHUK | XXL | 106–118 cm | 82–98 cm | ¥3,640–9,870 |
Where a range is shown, it spans the items measured, and some pages give a range for a single size. Tax treatment is not stated on every page, so treat the prices as indicative.
To compare the same label, here is size L in the example dress shown for each brand below:
| Brand | Bust (cm) | Waist (cm) |
|---|---|---|
| Bodyline | 92 | 70 |
| DearMyLove | 96 | 76 |
| JIRAPI | 99 | 81 |
| CIELOHUK | 90 | 70 |
On Bodyline, the very largest size, 5L, appears only on a small group of sailor-uniform items in the catalogue, not on the dresses measured here.
Bodyline: S to 4L
Bodyline lists bust, waist and hip for each size. In the dress below, going from M to 4L adds 12 cm of bust and 8 cm of waist.
Example: bi-colour frilled dress with princess sleeves, ¥8,280 (product page: bodylinetokyo.co.jp/products/25104).
| Size | Length (cm) | Bust (cm) | Waist (cm) | Hip (cm) | Shoulder (cm) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| S | 89 | 84 | 64 | 96 | 38 |
| M | 91 | 88 | 68 | 100 | 39 |
| L | 92 | 92 | 70 | 104 | 40 |
| 2L | 94 | 94 | 72 | 108 | 41 |
| 4L | 100 | 100 | 76 | 110 | 42 |
Other Bodyline dresses vary. A lace-up jumper skirt lists 4L at bust 90 and waist 86–94, and a punk jumper-skirt set lists 4L at bust 98–104. Always read the table on the item you want. See the Bodyline brand page and the Bodyline beginner’s guide.
DearMyLove: M to 3L
DearMyLove (sold on dreamvs.jp) shows its size table as an image on the product page, with the note that measurements are taken flat with a tape and can be off by about 2 cm. Across the dresses measured, the standard sizes run M, L and 3L, with LL on some items.
Example: 2-way cape dress, ¥11,990 tax included (product page: dreamvs.jp/products/535806).
| Size | Length (cm) | Shoulder (cm) | Sleeve (cm) | Bust (cm) | Waist (cm) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| M | 84 | 33 | 62 | 92 | 72 |
| L | 85 | 34 | 62 | 96 | 76 |
| LL | 86 | 35 | 62 | 100 | 80 |
| 3L | 87 | 36 | 62 | 104 | 84 |
Each step up adds 4 cm of bust and waist on this dress. On a camisole dress with a separate bolero, the 3L bust was given as a range of 98–108 cm, so range-style tables exist too. See the DearMyLove brand page.
JIRAPI: S to 5XL
JIRAPI’s tables are plain text on the product page. Many JIRAPI items have no size table in text, so check before you rely on an item.
Example: ribbon-and-frill long-sleeve dress, ¥6,220 tax included (product page: jirapi.jp/item/1208).
| Size | Bust (cm) | Waist (cm) | Shoulder (cm) | Sleeve (cm) | Back length (cm) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| S | 89 | 71 | 36.7 | 64 | 101 |
| M | 94 | 76 | 38 | 65 | 102.5 |
| L | 99 | 81 | 39.3 | 66 | 104 |
| XL | 104 | 86 | 40.6 | 67 | 105.5 |
| 2XL | 109 | 91 | 41.9 | 68 | 107 |
| 3XL | 114 | 96 | 43.2 | 69 | 108.5 |
| 4XL | 119 | 101 | 44.5 | 70 | 110 |
| 5XL | 124 | 106 | 45.8 | 71 | 111.5 |
On this dress each step adds 5 cm of bust and waist. Labels vary by item (2XL or XXL, 3XL or XXXL).
CIELOHUK: S to XXL (this example starts at M)
CIELOHUK labels the bust 胸囲 (kyōi, chest measurement). The same label can sit far apart between items: at XXL the bust was 106 cm on one dress and 118 cm on another.
Example: pearl-chain ribbon A-line dress, ¥9,870 (product page: cielohuk.cielosiro.co.jp/products/000000005049).
| Size | Length (cm) | Bust (cm) | Shoulder (cm) | Waist (cm) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| M | 78 | 86 | 36 | 66 |
| L | 79 | 90 | 37 | 70 |
| XL | 80 | 94 | 38 | 76 |
| 2XL | 86 | 106 | 40 | 88 |
The steps are uneven here: 12 cm of bust between XL and 2XL, against 4 cm between the smaller sizes. This is why a label alone tells you little.
Brands that stay at one or two sizes
axes femme lists a single size, M or F, on each item, so read the table on the item itself. LIZ LISA sells in one Free size on its Japanese store; see the Liz Lisa size chart. For these brands there is no ladder of sizes to move up: the product page’s numbers are the only guide.
How to choose
- Measure a garment of the same type that fits you now, flat, and note bust, waist and length.
- Look at the product’s table for the size above and below the one you are considering, not only your label.
- Prefer an item whose table is text or a clear image over one with no numbers.
- If the numbers fall between two sizes, read the step between them. At CIELOHUK the step varies; on the JIRAPI dress above it is 5 cm each time.
Fit is personal; these figures describe garments, not bodies. For ordering from outside Japan, check each brand’s page on this site (for example the Bodyline and DearMyLove pages), as shipping and returns differ by store.
